Dear Members of the Korean Magnetics Society,
The new year of 2025, the *Eulsa Year (乙巳年)* symbolizing wisdom, change, and growth, has dawned. Although a bright red sun has risen against a clearer sky than ever before, the present reality and the future ahead feel shrouded in darkness, with no hint of dawn, leaving us with a heavy heart. This year, more than ever, calls for the wisdom of the Blue Snake.
The 18th executive board of the Korean Magnetics Society has been inaugurated with a mission to foster a society filled with vibrant communication, joy, and shared growth among its members. To fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to us, we will diligently pursue the following key initiatives:
A Dynamic Society with Meaningful Content for and by the Members
We will publish a society newsletter filled with the wisdom and insights of senior members and the passion and ambition of early-career members. Additionally, we will strengthen communication among members and enhance the society's prestige through various channels, such as social media platforms that resonate with younger generations.
To further enrich the field of magnetics, we will expand research and educational content on the society's website and create a sustainable, open knowledge system—*‘Magnetic Wiki.’*
A Sustainable Society
We will focus on expanding and maintaining corporate sponsorships to ensure financial sustainability. Through events like the *“Special Member Meet Day,”* we aim to understand the needs of our corporate members and establish a communication platform between corporate and individual members. Furthermore, initiatives such as the *“Special Member-Sponsored Young Scientists’ Night”* will highlight the impact of corporate support and help expand sponsorships.
Advancing the Society's Journal
A dedicated Task Force Team has been formed to elevate the status of our society's journals. For the Korean-language journal *“한국자기학회지 (Korean Journal of Magnetics)”*, we will enhance sections covering fundamental principles and new technologies to provide practical support for early-career researchers and industry professionals.
For the English-language *“Journal of Magnetics (JOM)”*, we will publish review articles by leading researchers and support a complete overhaul to position it as a globally recognized journal. This includes efforts to include the journal in prominent international academic databases.
Support for Future Generations of Researchers
Through seasonal schools and online seminars, we aim to expand the reach of magnetics and nurture future generations of scholars. Additional events, such as *“Seasonal School MT,”* will foster networking, a sense of belonging, and pride among young researchers, providing them a platform to share their stories.
We also plan to expand scholarship funds and organize practical events such as employment linkage programs with corporate sponsors, entrepreneurship and job mentoring by specialized divisions, and more.
Policy Support for Members’ Stable Research Foundations
With recent government research funding cuts, many of our members are facing significant challenges. To address this crisis, our society will actively promote the academic and industrial importance of magnetics through public relations and communication with government entities.
Specifically, we will operate a planning council in collaboration with the National Research Foundation and propose ways to link the society's research achievements with national R&D policies. We also plan to discover and lead national projects.
Enhancing the Society’s International Prestige
As the chair country of AUMS, we will actively support our role and strengthen exchanges with societies in Japan, Taiwan, and other regions. Collaborative efforts such as joint seasonal schools will promote mutual growth, enabling us to lead the Pan-Asian Magnetics Society.
Additionally, we will make steady preparations for the successful hosting of *Intermag 2027,* which will serve as a milestone in elevating the society's international standing.
Despite difficult circumstances, our society has achieved remarkable progress over the past 35 years, thanks to the dedicated participation and efforts of our members. Notably, we turned the challenges of the financial crisis into an opportunity by successfully hosting *Intermag 1999.*
With this same spirit, we aim to make 2025 a year of growth and opportunity, guided by the wisdom and collective strength of our members. The newly inaugurated 18th executive board will spare no effort in fulfilling this mission and humbly request your unwavering support and interest in the society.
